FAQ

If I choose to be on the waitlist, what’s the likelihood my child will be enrolled?

The length of the waitlist can be misleading as sometimes it is hard to give an exact date for an opening. Children are on different weekly schedules; not all attend Monday – Friday.  We also tend to have a low turnover with families.  When an opportunity does arise, we go through the waitlist to see who matches the available schedule.  Ultimately, we can place everyone who wants to enroll.

What kind of fundraising do you do?

Little Olive Tree is funded entirely through registration and tuition fees.  We do not require any obligatory fundraising.

What qualifications do your teachers hold?

The teachers and assistants on our staff meet the requirements set by the State of Oregon Department of Education, Early Learning Division.  As Little Olive Tree is a Certified Child Care Center, we meet high health, safety, and program standards.

The providers must meet education and health requirements for educators working with small children. They are required to attend ongoing training dedicated to child development, child abuse and neglect, sleep, and health and safety. Food Handler's, CPR, and first aid certification before anyone working directly with the children.

Each staff member must pass an extensive background check through the Office of Child Care.

Does my child have to be potty trained?

We wholeheartedly believe that “toilet learning” is a process, and we welcome the opportunity to partner with you as your child goes through the steps of learning.  We have a diaper changing area for children enrolled in our toddler class who not yet started the process.

If your child is currently in the process, we will work on “toilet learning” together, and we ask that your child come to school in underpants.  Please send extra clothes with your child if an accident occurs.

Am I allowed to bring a treat for my child's birthday?

Yes, birthday celebrations are welcomed and take place in your child’s classroom.  If you wish to bring a special treat, please make prior arrangements with the teachers. They know the number of children in the class and any food allergies to be considered.

Do you offer extra-curricular activities?

Yes, Yoga and Music and Dance are offered weekly to all children.  Our instructors are trained and experienced in teaching these activities for young children.

What is your policy regarding sick children?

To keep our children, their families, and our staff as healthy as possible, we require that any child with a fever, vomiting, diarrhea, or contagious disease stay at home.  Your child must be symptom-free for 24 hours before returning to school.

What are the security measures in place to protect my child?

Your child’s safety and your peace of mind are of the utmost concern at Little Olive Tree Preschool.  Between 9:30 am and 4:00 pm, the front door is locked. The playground is fenced, and there is staff outside with the children at all times. All visitors must sign-in to gain access to our facility.

Do you provide lunches?

No.  We ask that you pack a healthy lunch for your child.  If your child has special food requirements or allergies, please note the details in the Enrollment Form.  We do have the ability to heat lunches in our microwave, if you desire.

We provide healthy snacks twice a day and milk during lunch.
